Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Advocacy for women’s rights is a global movement aimed at achieving gender equality, social justice, and empowerment. In Lafia Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, women face challenges such as limited access to education, economic opportunities, and representation in decision-making processes. Photography has emerged as a compelling medium for advocacy, using visual storytelling to highlight issues, inspire empathy, and mobilize action. Globally, photojournalists and advocacy campaigns have successfully used photography to expose gender inequalities and amplify women’s voices.
